There’s just under two weeks left in the January transfer window, and Marcus Rashford’s situation at Manchester United remains unresolved.

Rashford wants to leave United, and there have been a few suitors to come forward this January.

West Ham have been linked with Rashford, while AC Milan wanted Rashford at one point too before moving for Kyle Walker.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Melissa Reddy has been discussing Rashford’s situation at United, and she says that the attacker’s preference is to join Barcelona.

Indeed, the journalist says that Rashford wants to head to the Spanish giants and he’s even mentioned this idea to his teammates.

Marcus Rashford has told teammates he wants Barcelona move

Reddy shared what she knows about Rashford.

The journalist noted that Rashford is keen to join Barcelona, but there are some financial hurdles that may need clearing before this deal can be done.

“The sense from United, even Milan and Dortmund is that Rashford’s preference is to join Barcelona. He has said that in the past, he’s mentioned it to teammates, he just needed Barcelona to resolve their financial issues, which they have done, and now they just need a few outgoings to create the space to be able to afford him if they decide to proceed,” Reddy said.

Marcus Rashford record vs Spanish opposition

Rashford may be headed to La Liga, and it’s fair to say he does need a change of scenery to kickstart his career again.

Indeed, the Manchester United star has stalled this season, Rashford has been heavily criticised at Old Trafford this season.

A move to Barcelona is always going to appeal to any player, but Barcelona may want to be careful here.

Indeed, while many players who struggle in the Premier League are able to perform better in the Champions League – Iago Aspas and Diego Forlan are two examples, Rashford’s record against Spanish clubs over the years isn’t great.

Rashford has faced off against Spanish opposition 20 times in his career, and he’s only scored five goals in those matches.

That is not a great return to say the least, and it’s not as though he’s consistently playing against the Spanish giants either.

Six of those games were against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, but the remaining fixtures were against, historically, weaker opposition such as Celta Vigo, Granada and Valencia.

Rashford may want to join Barcelona, but whether Barca need Rashford is another question.
