What Liverpool haven’t ruled out doing after being rejected by Martin Zubimendi

Liverpool have suffered a serious transfer blow this summer as they have been rejected by Martin Zubimendi.

The Spanish midfielder has decided that he wants to stay at Real Sociedad rather than move to Anfield this summer.

Zubimendi’s decision is a serious blow for Liverpool, but this may not be the end of this story for the Reds.

Indeed, according to The Mail, Liverpool still have a transfer plan in mind after being rejected by Zubimendi.

Liverpool haven’t ruled out signing a new number six

According to The Mail, Liverpool still haven’t ruled out signing a new defensive midfield player this summer.

A move for a new midfielder is seen as being unlikely at this point. However, it hasn’t been definitively ruled out behind the scenes at Anfield.

It has to be said that Liverpool do need a new anchoring midfield player.

The Reds signed four new midfielders last summer, but there’s still this feeling that they haven’t replaced Fabinho.

Wataru Endo came in last summer, but, with all due respect, the Japan international isn’t exactly a long-term option, nor is he of the quality needed from a team looking to win the Premier League.

Defensive midfield market is bare

Liverpool haven’t ruled out signing a new number six, but it has to be said that the market is bare in that regard.

Indeed, there aren’t many quality players in this position up for grabs right now.

Martin Zubimendi has already rejected Liverpool, Joao Palhinha has joined Bayern Munich, while Liverpool have denied the notion that they’re interested in Bruno Guimaraes.

Where Liverpool turn to next remains to be seen, but they need to get somebody through the door to bolster their midfield, as this has been a problem position for far too long.

The Reds need to get to work if they’re going to hit the ground running under Arne Slot.
