Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future is the big talking point at Anfield right now.

Of course, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s contracts are also huge issues at Anfield, but those two situations seem to be more under control.

Indeed, Salah’s contract talks are going well, while Liverpool are confident Van Dijk will sign a new contract.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold has been linked to Real Madrid, and the defender could be on his way out of Liverpool on a free transfer.

Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Jonathan Northcroft has been discussing Alexander-Arnold’s situation, and he says that there’s a growing acceptance within Liverpool that the defender is going to leave.

Liverpool starting to accept that Alexander-Arnold is leaving

Northcroft shared what he’s hearing about Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The journalist says that the sense is that Liverpool won’t be able to keep Alexander-Arnold, and that they are accepting that he’s likely to join Real Madrid.

“Look, my sense is that the starting point would be that they can’t keep all three on, or rather they couldn’t keep Alexander-Arnold on the enhanced wages that he wants, plus keep Mo Salah on the very least same wages, possibly enhanced wages that he wants while doing the same with van Dijk. So that option is off the table. I think there’s an acceptance, a growing acceptance at the club that Trent is likely to want to leave, that his direction of travel is towards Madrid and that nothing can stop that,” Northcroft said.

“And they have got Conor Bradley coming in behind him. So I think that decision is starting to be taken out of their hands.”

Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool legacy

Trent Alexander-Arnold may be heading into his final six months as a Liverpool player, but no matter what happens from here, the full-back will always be a Liverpool legend.

Alexander-Arnold is a world-class player who is a product of the Reds’ academy, and the numbers show why he will be remembered as a club legend no mater what happens.

Yes, Alexander-Arnold’s time at Anfield may be cut short in order for him to join Real Madrid, but when all is said and done, he’ll still be remembered as a club legend.

He’s won every trophy there is to win with his boyhood club, and he’s provided some incredible moments over the years, including the assist for Divock Origi’s goal vs Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final.

Losing Alexander-Arnold will sting, and there will be some emotional responses to this news, but once the dust settles, Alexander-Arnold will be remembered as a true Liverpool great.
