Chelsea are now closing in on the signing of Liam Delap as Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen his ranks ahead of the Blues’ Champions League return.

Earlier this week, TBR Football confirmed that Delap had decided on a move to Chelsea ahead of fellow suitors Manchester United and Everton.

And on Friday, TBR Football revealed that Chelsea are hoping to be in a position to announce Delap’s signing in the next three days or so.

Chelsea fans should be especially excited about what Delap recently said about Cole Palmer, a player he knows very well.

Liam Delap said Cole Palmer really helped him score at Manchester City

Liam Delap and Cole Palmer both came through the ranks at Manchester City and have also played together for the England Under-21s.

A few weeks ago, Delap took part in the Sticker Book Challenge on Sky Sports, and one of the topics he discussed was former academy teammates.

When asked about Palmer, Delap said the Chelsea playmaker played a big part in providing him with ammunition at City.

The Ipswich ace also described Palmer as one of the world’s best players right now.

“Him (Palmer) and Macca (James McAtee) were both there behind me and, you know, it helped me so much to score,” said Delap.

“To win games with them two behind me, it was so good to have two quality players like that.

“Obviously Cole now – the stuff he’s done in the last two years is incredible, and he is one of the better players in the world at the moment.”

Needless to say, the Delap signing has the potential to be an absolute masterstroke for Chelsea.

The Blues are not only getting themselves a young striker proven in the Premier League for just £30million, but he could forge a superb partnership with Palmer, in which they can bring the best out of each other.
