Footage shows what Kieran Trippier did straight after the final whistle when Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

The former Spurs man was on the winning side on his return to north London. But he took the time to console Heung-Min Son after the game.

It was another disappointing evening for Son, who went close in the first half an hour but struggled to make an impact thereafter.

Newcastle made the most of two mistakes from Spurs, with Wilson grabbing the opener after dispossessing Hugo Lloris just outside the penalty area.

Miguel Almiron then outmuscled Ryan Sessegnon after a poor pass from Lloris. The Magpies man then breezed past Clement Lenglet and doubled his side’s lead.

Spurs did get back into the game through Harry Kane but couldn’t manage to find an equaliser.

What Trippier did straight after Newcastle beat Tottenham

It’s been a tough week for Son and Spurs, suffering consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

The South Korean was clearly disappointed after yesterday’s loss and his former teammate Trippier walked straight up to him after the full-time whistle.

Footage shows the 32-year-old putting his arm around Son and then hugging him.

The Spurs winger looked devastated after the game and as Tripper walked off, he put his hands on his knees and stared at the ground.

The Newcastle full-back is clearly enjoying life at St James’ Park and has been in brilliant form since making the switch from Atletico Madrid in January.

But Trippier played his football in north London between 2015 and 2019 and was part of the Spurs side which made it to the Champions League final in his last year at the club.

It’s great to see Trippier consoling Son as the Spurs winger looked devastated after his side suffered another loss.

His time in north London may not have worked out the way he’d hoped, but Trippier clearly has a lot of respect for his former teammates.
