Scott Parker has won admirers at Tottenham Hotspur for the work he has done at Fulham, according to a report from The Athletic.
Spurs, of course, are looking for their next boss after parting company with Jose Mourinho this week. And Parker is one of several names seemingly attracting attention.
The Athletic does note that Daniel Levy is likely to want a bigger name. But they also highlight that Fulham loanee Joachim Andersen is a player Tottenham are heavily interested in ahead of the summer. According to The Telegraph, his asking price stands at £25 million.
Obviously, Tottenham are not going to appoint a manager on the basis of one potential summer target. But it would appear that getting Parker in would boost their chances of getting Andersen to make the same move.
Andersen has been superb for much of this season – despite the Cottagers’ struggles. And it appears that he is a big fan of working under Parker, judging by comments he made to 90min last October when asked about the Fulham boss.
“I spoke with him a lot before signing,” he told 90min. “I have only had good feedback on him and his coaching. I was told he belongs to the new wave of talented coaches.
“In the first training session, I was impressed by his preferred style of play. He took the time to explain his playing philosophy to me and how he wanted me to play. It reinforced my decision to sign here.”
TBR View: Parker’s style may be exactly what Spurs players need right now
Andersen’s comments would suggest that Parker is proving to be a very good man-manager. And amid suggestions that some players were struggling with Mourinho, someone with Parker’s style may be exactly what they need.
Admittedly, some are likely to have their doubts about whether he is ready. Fulham are in serious danger of making an immediate return to the Championship.
But Andersen’s comments highlight why their league position is not the only factor Tottenham need to consider when weighing up whether Parker could do a good job.
