What Jermain Defoe once said about Celtic target Josh King

Celtic have been linked with yet another of Eddie Howe’s former players, with The Scottish Sun reporting this week that Josh King is set to be a target if Howe is appointed at Parkhead.

King is set to become a free agent in the summer. The Scottish Sun reports that he is likely to leave Everton following his arrival on a £45,000-a-week deal in January.

The Norwegian enjoyed the best spell of his career to date while working under Howe at Bournemouth. It was also during his time with the Cherries that King worked alongside Jermain Defoe.

And when asked about King on the club’s official Facebook account in 2017, Defoe – who is obviously now at Ibrox – outlined just how highly he rated him.

“He’s brilliant, even before I was here, he was someone that impressed me,” he said. “He’s strong, scores goals, good appetite, he wants to do well. He works hard, stays behind after training. He does all the things I did, when I was his age.”

King is only 29. So there is reason to believe that he has plenty of time left at his peak. And he is a player who can play in various attacking roles.

Howe also knows how to get the best out of him. So if the pair are reunited at Celtic, a move has the potential to be an inspired one.

It certainly appears that Defoe would feel that Celtic had produced a very good piece of business if they manage to bring King in this summer.
