Myles Lewis-Skelly has been nothing short of a revelation at Arsenal in recent times.
The youngster has been making waves at left-back, and the scary thing is that there may be more to come from the teenager.
Indeed, while Lewis-Skelly has received plenty of praise since breaking into the first-team at Arsenal, we may have only scratched the surface in terms of what the youngster is capable of.
Speaking on Inside Gooners, Simon Collings has been discussing Lewis-Skelly’s abilities as a player, and he says that there’s an incredible attribute that Lewis-Skelly has that we’ve barely seen yet.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is brilliant at driving with the ball
According to Collings, Lewis-Skelly was really rated in the Arsenal academy due to his ability to drive and carry the ball.
Lewis-Skelly played more as a midfielder than a full-back in his academy, so he had more scope to make those driving runs.
Lewis-Skelly has, somewhat, shown that at left-back, but it would appear there’s more to come in that regard.
In fact, Jack Wilshere was said to be a fan of Lewis-Skelly’s ability to drive with the ball.
Wilshere praised Lewis-Skelly on numerous occasions during his time coaching with Arsenal.
“That will be an interesting debate where Lewis-Skelly ends up. Jack Wilshere in the U18s had him as a number six or a number eight and the thing they really liked about him in the academy was his ability to drive and carry the ball.
“He does that a bit at left-back, but if you had him, look at the way Rice drives with it and if Lewis-Skelly was in those areas, he could be a big player there.”
Myles Lewis-Skelly positions played
Lewis-Skelly has looked like an absolute natural at left-back in recent times, but, as Collings says, he was brought through as a midfield player.
Indeed, Lewis-Skelly only trained to be a left-back last year, and he’s taken to that position with ease.
However, for most of his youth career, he did play as a midfielder, as the stats show.
| Myles Lewis-Skelly positions played | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Defensive midfield | 26 | 2 | 2 |
| Left-back | 23 | 1 | 1 |
| Centre-midfield | 10 | 1 | 6 |
Lewis-Skelly does have the attributes to play in midfield, such as driving with the ball from deep, and, who knows? Perhaps once Riccardo Calafiori is back fit and up to speed, we may see Lewis-Skelly move into a more central area.
If Lewis-Skelly does begin to play centrally, he could strike up a fantastic partnership with Declan Rice, as both men are incredible well-rounded footballers.
The sky is the limit for this young man, that’s for sure.
