What is next for Manchester United?
As we all know, Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement towards the end of last season. This has left one question in everyone’s mind; What is next?.
After Sir Alex’s astonishing twenty-six year career at Manchester United, he finally decided to bring it to an end after winning his thirteenth premier league title. He was then replaced by fellow Scotsman, David Moyes. This did not come as a shock as David Moyes is a very well respected manager around Europe.
There was much speculation around David’s future this season and he was continually linked to some of the best jobs in England. Before Sir Alex left, he brought in some great players with plenty of potential.
In 2011, he completed the signings of Phil Jones from Blackburn and also David De Gea from Atletico Madrid. These are undoubtedly two great players that can go on to achieve great things in there career. They will be very important players for David Moyes as he will take all the help he can get after making this remarkable step-up from Everton to Manchester United.
During his 11 year reign at Everton, David failed to win a trophy. It seems like a huge risk for Manchester United to appoint a manager who hasn’t won a trophy but they seem to be more interested in his Premier League experience. The departure of Sir Alex also led to the departure of his coaching staff: Mike Phelan, Rene Meulensteen and Eric Steele.
This means that next season will be a completely different experience for the players as they try to impress their new boss to show they should be picked. Moyes has also brought in Phil Neville to work along side him. Phil will be working alongside former team mate and United Legend, Ryan Giggs. This should help David in this testing time as these two are vastly experienced players and should be able to help the youth trying to break into the senior squad.
One of these players is Wilfred Zaha. We haven’t seen much of Zaha yet but from the pre-season games that we have seen so far, he looks a very exciting player. Moyes may need a few more players like Zaha to help win over some fans. Manchester United have been strongly linked with some of the best players out there and it is really important for Moyes that he makes a major signing or two.
With Manchester United winning the title last season, they will now play Wigan Athletic in the Charity shield. This will be very important in their season because I believe that If Moyes wins this that will then provide him with the confidence boost that is well needed. This win will also provide Moyes with his first piece band for silverware and this will also give Moyes the confidence to go and win more trophies in what could be a very good career.
The upcoming season looks set to be a very interesting one for Manchester United fans as it may be the first time some of their fans have seen them play without Sir Alex on the touchline.
