We all saw it, well, most of us will have, but Tottenham striker Harry Kane delivered a performance for the ages at Manchester City yesterday.
The England skipper was back to his very, very best in a Spurs shirt. Two goals, including an injury time winner, capped of a performance full of energy, power, and precision when needed by Kane. It was, as Jamie Carragher said on Sky, a performance to marvel at.
Of course, the script was half-written. Having been courted all summer by City, it was written in the stars for Kane to go to The Etihad and have a big impact on proceedings. And he couldn’t really have made any bigger an impact.

Indeed, according to The Telegraph, such was the impact of Kane’s performance on the City players, that they held a full-time dressing room inquest into how the Tottenham star had single-handedly destroyed them. It’s claimed City’s players looked at the evidence and where they’d gone wrong. From that, it’s suggested a conclusion was reached in that the City players simply didn’t know whether to drop off or follow Kane.
Certainly, it seems that the City players were left bemused – if not a tad impressed – by the man they courted so heavily this past summer.
TBR’s View: Kane Masterclass Showed City What They Miss
Jack Grealish hasn’t been a bad signing for City by any means. But they must be wondering what might have been had they managed to land Kane.
The Tottenham man was not only class all around the pitch, but he also showed that being a lethal finisher is worth a fortune in this league. His two goals were world-class finishes.
For Pep Guardiola, the frustration must be there. Pep, then, will be hoping to make another play for Kane this summer you feel.
