'What?', 'can't believe it': Some Arsenal fans think 'phenomenal' player has dropped big leaving hint

Arsenal are close to bidding farewell to Granit Xhaka, according to reports.

Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that the Gunners are in advanced negotiations with Roma over the 28-year-old’s signature.

The two clubs are apparently still in talks over a fee, with Arsenal reportedly wanting around £21.5m.

However, personal terms between Xhaka and Roma shouldn’t be a problem, added the report.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

The Switzerland captain is currently on international duty ahead of Euro 2020 getting under way.

In Friday’s press conference, he was asked about the speculation over his future.

“There are always rumours as soon as the transfer market opens but I don’t want to talk about my future,” he told The Telegraph, via Football Italia.

“I am 100 percent focused here with the national team… what happens afterwards, you will then get to know about it.”

Some Arsenal fans reckon Xhaka’s answer is a big hint towards a seemingly imminent departure.

Here’s what they said on Twitter:

Xhaka joined Arsenal in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35million.

He has made 220 appearances for the north Londoners, including 45 last season.

Who could be on the Gunners’ radar?

The same Sky Sports report claims Arsenal are interested in Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

The Gunners are apparently also looking at Brighton duo Ben White and former loanee Mat Ryan.

However, Ryan may want assurances of game time before committing to a deal with his boyhood club, added the report.

And Arsenal are reportedly still in touch with Real Madrid over Martin Odegaard, another 2020-21 loanee.

Mikel Arteta loves Xhaka, no question about that – he’s previously deemed him “phenomenal”.

However, question marks remain over whether he’s the kind of player who can take Arsenal forward.

He’s a solid player but if the Gunners want to challenge for the title and cups regularly, they need more quality throughout the team.

And given Xhaka is reportedly keen on moving away, this potential move works for all parties.
