The summer transfer window has now officially opened, but you wouldn’t think it with the amount of deals that have already been agreed between clubs and players.
Renato Sanches to Bayern Munich, Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United and Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City are just some of the biggest transfers of the summer that were agreed before the window officially opened.
Two other players that look set to follow this multi-million trio out of their former clubs are wide-men Hatem Ben Arfa and Luis Nani.
The Frenchman and Portuguese have both enjoyed stellar seasons for their clubs Nice and Fenerbache, which has attracted interest from other clubs, with PSG vying for Ben Arfa and Valencia for Nani.
Over the next couple of pages, let’s take a look at what each player could bring to his respective club. Leave your thoughts on the duo in the comments section below, including how much of a success you believe each can be for their new team.
Hatem Ben Arfa
Ben Arfa is a familiar name to most English football fans after his time at Newcastle United and Hull City on loan. However, despite his promise, he never really delivered on a consistent basis, and it was deemed that his weight issues had got the better of him, his career looked to be all but over.
However, Ben Arfa has been rejuvenated after signing for Nice a year ago, and has shown the world what he can really do, so much so he has attracted the interest of one of the world’s biggest clubs: Paris Saint-Germain.
Scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances last season, a ratio of just about one goal every two games, Ben Arfa operates predominantly as a wide-man on either flank, but can also play as an attacking midfielder, and clearly has a very good eye for goal.
He is one of the trickiest wingers with an extreme set of skills in his armoury, and would certainly be an asset to PSG, not least because they would be prising one of their rival team’s key players.
Ben Arfa would however face stiff competition for a starting place, with the Ligue 1 champions already boasting attacking riches in Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura among others. Nevertheless, from the club’s point of view, it is an excellent coup as it means they have plenty of options.
This move would ultimately make sense for both club and player, and Ben Arfa will be delighted he has proved all his doubters wrong.
