What Aston Villa insiders are saying about Yasin Ozcan as £7m signing now announced

Aston Villa have just announced a signing – one week after the transfer window closed.

Reports from Turkey in the middle of January claimed that Yasin Ozcan was set for a medical at Aston Villa – after a £6.7m fee was agreed with Kasimpasa.

The situation then went quiet as Monchi – President of Football Operations – focused on finalising the signing of Andres Garcia, as well as loan deals for Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford.

Now, however, Aston Villa have announced the signing of Ozcan on a pre-contract agreement from Kasimpasa, with the central defender expected to link up with Unai Emery this summer.

Few people on these shores will know much about the 18-year-old, but TBR Football have now received information on what those inside Villa Park think of the teenager.

Aston Villa insiders feel Yasin Ozcan could be another Pau Torres

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now received some comments from Aston Villa insiders about the Turkey U21 international.

We understand Aston Villa are delighted to have secured Ozcan’s signature, and believe the teenager has a seriously bright future in football.

Those within Villa Park also tell TBR Football that the Istanbul-born wonderkid is viewed as a long-term successor to Pau Torres in the centre of defence.

Unai Emery has a versatile figure in Yasin Ozcan

While the Villans believe Ozcan is capable of emulating Torres, he could also represent an option for depth at left-back.

The Guardian explain how the Turk started his career as a left-winger before he was converted to a defender due to his size and speed, and feels his best position is at left-back.

Ozcan – who became the youngest player ever to score in the Super Lig aged 16 back in January 2023 – also cites Sergio Ramos as his idol.

With all of the above taken into account, Aston Villa may well have secured themselves a £6.7m bargain.
