What Arsenal fans chanted at Ange Postecoglou as Nottingham Forest boss makes excuse

Ange Postecoglou endured a nightmare start to life as Nottingham Forest manager with a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday.

The former Tottenham manager replaced Nuno Espirito Santo this week at the City Ground, but they were always facing an uphill challenge at Arsenal having never won away at the Gunners in the Premier League era.

A Martin Zubimendi brace and Viktor Gyokeres goal handed Arsenal a straightforward win against a disappointing Forest side, leaving Postecoglou with plenty of work to do.

Postecoglou’s personal winless record against Arsenal continues after failing to beat Arteta’s side during his time at Spurs, with Arsenal fans revelling in the opportunity to mock the new Forest boss on Saturday.

As Arsenal strolled to a simple win over Nottingham Forest in Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge, Gunners fans enjoyed getting one over on the former Tottenham manager.

Having only just replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, Postecoglou was taunted with ironic chants of ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ by Arsenal supporters at the Emirates Stadium.

And to make it worse for Postecoglou, Arsenal fans followed it up with ‘Are you Tottenham in disguise?’, referring to Spurs’ 17th-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

Postecoglou did not respond to the jeers, but did offer an excuse for the flat performance after a week of upheaval at the City Ground.

Ange Postecoglou says ‘disruptive’ week didn’t help Nottingham Forest preparations vs Arsenal

Offering an excuse for Nottingham Forest’s flat performance at Arsenal, Ange Postecoglou referenced the international break and his unexpected appointment as two key factors.

“It’s been a really disruptive week for the players, I’ve tried to keep things really simple this week, we’ve only had one training session together,” Postecoglou told BBC Sport.

“Hopefully now we can start bedding in some of the principles we need to. I just didn’t think it was the time to disrupt them even further. They at least had the core of the team together so there is some cohesion there and some understanding rather than just throwing guys even.”

Speaking to TNT Sports, Postecoglou said: “It hasn’t been an ideal prep for the players and you have to take that into account. All you can ask for is effort and unfortunately, against a very good opponent, today was a bridge too far.”
