Arsenal have now completed their pre-season trip to the United States following their game on Thursday night.

Mikel Arteta‘s side were served their first defeat of pre-season against Arne Slot’s Liverpool in Philadelphia.

The Gunners will now be set to return to north London where the action will not stop with more transfers being eyed ahead of the season opener.

Edu Gaspar has only been able to bring in Riccardo Calafiori this summer but Mikel Merino remains a player Arsenal are interested in.

But there is also some in-house business which the Gunners need to address with Arteta’s contract now running into its final 12 months.

What those at Arsenal are saying about Mikel Arteta’s new contract

A big season awaits Arsenal following two years of battling Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal will be hoping it is a case of third time lucky having just missed out on the crown last season by a matter of two points.

However, the north London side are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season starting and have added quality with the addition of Calafiori.

However, there are some issues behind the scenes which Arsenal are needing to resolve over the coming months.

According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal have now agreed basic terms with Arteta over a new contract.

There are currently no fears in north London over Arteta’s future at the club despite him now being in the final year of his deal.

It has even been described to be a ‘complete shock’ if Arsenal are unable to tie Arteta down on an extended contract at the Emirates.

Discussions have taken place behind the scenes this summer with the terms of a new contract agreed with the Spaniard.

What has Mikel Arteta said about his Arsenal contract situation?

Despite now running into the final year, it is apparent the Arsenal manager is remaining very calm about his situation.

Although it is now just a matter of weeks before the Premier League season kicks off, it seems even those are relaxed about Arteta’s contract.

And it is clear to see why when the manager is providing these kind of statements to the fans about his future.

“There is no update [on his contract] at the moment. The thing that hasn’t changed is how happy I am and how valued I feel here and how much I love representing this club,” he told ESPN last month.

“Things happen in a natural way and our relationship is that good that I don’t predict any issues happening. But things have to develop in the right way and it will happen.”
