Tottenham produced a blistering second half performance to blow Newcastle away yesterday as they continued their fight to land a top four spot.

Ben Davies had scored just before half-time to change the feeling inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. From there, a masterclass from Harry Kane – and others – saw Spurs smash four more goals in past Eddie Howe’s side to run out 5-1 winners.

Manager Antonio Conte was delighted with his team’s efforts. And the Italian manager has revealed that he had some half-time words for his troops which he hoped inspired them.

“Honestly after the first half in the dressing room I spoke to my players and said ‘continue to play in this way and keep patience and don’t lose concentration. I said keep playing in this way and you’ll see that we are going to win the game’”, Conte said after the game.

“I like the calmness. When you feel yourself strong and then you show this. It’s good for me because I’m proud to see my team show calm, resilience and the right moment to attack, control the game and keep possession.”

The win for Tottenham moved them up to fourth in the table with Arsenal due to play tonight. Interestingly, Spurs are now just five points off Chelsea in third, who were hammered 4-1 by Brentford at home.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Really Motoring Under Conte

The Italian has slowly got this Tottenham team going and they’re now looking like real contenders. With Kane and Son leading the charge, Spurs are playing some exciting football that fans are loving.

Five goals was no more than Spurs deserved yesterday. In fact, they might have scored even more on another day.

This top four race is really hotting up now and Spurs have positioned themselves nicely. Of course, Arsenal are in there too, but Conte has done brilliantly to get his team in the mix.
