‘What a start’: Sky Sports commentator left amazed by ‘rapid’ Arsenal player in first-half vs Liverpool

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was left amazed by the performance of Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli in the first-half against Liverpool today.

Arsenal got off to an excellent start to the game at the Emirates as Martinelli put them ahead inside two minutes.

Martin Odegaard played a brilliant through ball in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold and the Brazilian winger finished excellently.

Martinelli was causing Jurgen Klopp’s men problems down the left-hand side and Neville was full of praise for the winger.

In the 6th minute of the game, Thomas Partey cleared a Liverpool corner into the path of Martinelli.

The Arsenal winger ended up being in a foot race with Luis Diaz to get to the ball. And Martinelli got the better of the Liverpool man.

After losing the race, Diaz fouled Martinelli and was booked for preventing an Arsenal counter-attack.

Neville was blown away by Martinelli’s pace on Sky Sports and praised the winger for a brilliant start to today’s game.

“That was some race between Diaz and Martinelli,” he said.

“Martinelli – rapid. Blistering pace from Martinelli. What a start to a game he’s had.”

Liverpool got back on level terms through Darwin Nunez in the 34th minute after a superb bit of play from Diaz. The Colombian winger latched onto a loose ball and put an excellent delivery into the Arsenal box.

But Martinelli was in the thick of the action once again right at the end of the first-half as he set-up Bukayo Saka to give Arsenal the lead.

The Gunners eventually secured a 3-2 win over Klopp’s men after Saka got his second of the game from the penalty spot.

Mikel Arteta’s men head back to the top of the Premier League and have maintained their excellent start to the new season.
