Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been praised by Gary Lineker, who described the Reds gem as a “lovely footballer” and tipped him to become a “helluva player”.

The 19-year-old has risen through the ranks at Liverpool and has come a very long way in the last couple of years, culminating in a great 2020 for him.

In early 2018, Jones signed his first professional contract at Anfield and made his Liverpool Under-23s debut.

This year, the young maestro scored Liverpool’s winning goal against Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup third round.

Jones also became the Reds’ youngest ever captain in the FA Cup fourth-round replay against Shrewsbury, and ended 2019-20 with 12 senior appearances in all competitions.

This term, meanwhile, he has made 15 appearances, including five starts in the Premier League and four in the Champions League, and has scored three goals.

Last night, Jones made his third consecutive league start and once again played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners over Tottenham at Anfield.

He put in a thoroughly impressive performance, playing a key role in Mohamed Salah’s opener and showing composure, skill and tenacity throughout.

Needless to say, Lineker was impressed with Jones:

Liverpool already have a star-studded team as it is but what’s potentially even more exciting for the Reds fanbase is the abundance of talented players coming through the ranks, of which Jones is one of the most highly rated.

There had been very high hopes for Jones – contracted to Liverpool until the summer of 2024 – and he’s already proving he has what it takes at the top level, with a superb performance against Premier League title rivals en route to victory just his latest achievement.
