'We've received an offer from Russia': Director issues update on 'ideal' striker Bielsa reportedly wants at Leeds
Leeds United have been strongly linked with Lazio’s Vedat Muriqi in recent days.
Earlier this week, La Lazio Siamo Noi claimed the Whites had registered their interest in the striker.
Then, the same outlet claimed Leeds’ interest in Muriqi was hotting up.
The report – via Sport Witness – claimed the Kosovo international is looking to leave his club this month.
Leeds have apparently moved for Muriqi and want to bring him to Elland Road ‘right away’.
The two clubs are reportedly in talks which have yielded significant progress.
However, Leeds and Lazio currently have a difference in opinion over the terms of the move, claimed the report.
The Italians are reportedly looking for a loan with obligation to buy for 8m euro (£6.7million).
But now, it looks as though Leeds have strong competition from CSKA Moscow.
Calciomercato quoted Lazio director Igli Tare as saying: “Muriqi? We’ve received an offer from Russia. I can’t say any more.”
A different Calciomercato report has claimed that West Bromwich Albion are also eyeing the 27-year-old, in addition to clubs in Turkey.
Leeds are in need of bolstering their ranks, and Muriqi is certainly a good shout.
He might have struggled in Italy, but his record in Turkish football shows he’s clearly a talented forward.
Muriqi impressed at Caykur Rizespor and Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig in 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively.
He scored 17 goals in 34 league appearances for the former, and 15 in 32 league appearances for the latter.
In 2019, Turkey icon Rustu Recber described Muriqi as the “ideal centre-forward”.
And in 2020, Damien Comolli deemed the 6ft 4in ace good enough to play for “any team in England”.
