West Ham United can hold their heads high after their performance against Liverpool on Monday.
The relegation-threatened side fell to a 3-2 defeat, but almost stole a point off the runaway leaders.
The Hammers actually took the lead at Anfield, but goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane saw the hosts come away unscathed, and their unbeaten run still intact.
As opposed to the Manchester City game last week, there were plenty of admirable individual West Ham performances on the night.
One man who really caught the eye, was young full-back Jeremy Ngakia – who was deputising for the injured Ryan Fredericks at right-back.
The 19-year-old was making only his second appearance for the first-team, his first coming in the reverse fixture against Liverpool in late January.
Going up against Sadio Mane was never going to be easy, but Ngakia performed very respectably against the Senegalese superstar.
Mane eventually scored for Liverpool and the youngster might have tracked him better for the goal, but overall it was an assured display by Ngakia.
The Englishman came in for high praise after the game on social media, with fans recognising his composure.
TBR’s view – Ngakia must retain place
Given West Ham’s position in the league table, the temptation will be strong for David Moyes to plump for the experience of Pablo Zabaleta going forwards.
But Ngakia does not deserve to dropping after his strong Anfield showing.
Moyes needs to make the bold call to stick by him, as Zabaleta has often shown he does struggle against pace – and fast wingers are very common in the Premier League.
