West Ham United have two goalkeepers facing off with each other at upcoming World Under-17 Championships

The World Under-17 World Cup gets underway this weekend with the 18th edition of the competition being hosted by pre-tournament favourites Brazil.

England, unfortunately, are not present at the competition so cannot defend their triumph from 2017 where a Phil Foden inspired side came out on top in India.

However, there is still plenty of English club interest at the competition, especially for West Ham United fans.

In fact, they have two players who both have the same objective with their respective nations at the competition. Keep the ball out of the net.

West Ham will have two young goalkeepers in action at the tournament, Daniel Jinadu of Nigeria and Krisztian Hegyi of Hungary.

Born in Nigeria, Jinadu joined the West Ham academy in December 2017 from Chelsea and is a former England under-16 international. Nigeria are considered one of the best teams at the tournament but Jinadu will have a tough task getting in the starting XI ahead of number one Sunday Stephen and Bournemouth stopper Joseph Oluwabusola.

Hegyi, on the other hand, is expected to be Hungary’s first choice at the tournament. West Ham snapped up the talented stopper from Haladas in May after his impressive performances for Hungary in the European Under-17 Championships in Ireland earlier in the year.

Hegyi has gone straight into the under-18s’ starting XI and even made the bench for the under-21s last month.

Both players are placed in Group B, along with Ecuador and Australia, so it will be interesting if both of West Ham’s talents can advance from the Group Stage.

So there is clearly plenty of reason for West Ham fans to be keeping an on events in Brazil over the next month or so.
