West Ham United put up a valiant effort during a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday.
The Hammers lost out to the odd goal in three but things could have been so much different.
Felipe Anderson had drawn parity for Manuel Pellegrini’s side just after the interval. Paul Pogba’s second penalty of the contest ultimately put the Hammers to the sword, however.

What undoubtedly will aggrieve Pellegrini is the fact that Anderson also had a perfectly good goal chalked off through offside. Television replays suggested that he was perhaps in an onside position when the ball was played.
The performance will give the Hammers hope that they can end the season on a high though. They were competitive for large parts of the game and the fact that United couldn’t find a breakthrough in open play is a small gain for Pellegrini.
Declan Rice was once again instrumental for the Hammers in the middle of the park. The 20-year-old is getting better with each passing game and now has 31 league appearances to his name this season.

Rice is on just £30k-a-week at the London Stadium, according to talkSPORT. Given that his stock has risen this season, that could well be addressed during the summer by the Hammers.
Following the game, he issued a heartfelt thanks to the fans who had made the journey to Manchester and said of his disappointment that a result couldn’t be claimed.
The Hammers faithful took time out to respond to Rice and we rounded up the best tweets in reaction to the England international’s tweet.
