David Moyes’s West Ham United are competing with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.

That is according to TEAMtalk, which has named another club in England who are keen on O’Riley.

So, what has been reported about West Ham United, Newcastle United and Celtic star Matt O’Riley? Let’s take a look.

West Ham United linked with Celtic star Matt O’Riley

Well, according to TEAMtalk, West Ham United are interested in signing Matt O’Riley from Celtic.

The report has noted that West Ham are “monitoring” O’Riley. Newcastle United are also interested in the midfielder and have scouted him “on multiple occasions”.

TEAMtalk has added that Leicester City, who are aiming to win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the season, admire O’Riley as well.

O’Riley joined Celtic from MK Dons in 2022 for £1.5 million (TEAMtalk). The defending Scottish Premiership champions will demand over £25 million for the 23-year-old. He is a massive player for the Hoops.

Matt O’Riley is highly rated

Matt O’Riley is one of the best young players in the Scottish Premiership and has done well for Celtic.

The Denmark international has scored nine goals and given five assists in 17 Scottish Premiership matches for the Hoops this season. The youngster has given three assists in six UEFA Champions League games this campaign.

O’Riley scored three goals and gave 12 assists in 32 Scottish Premiership starts for the Hoops last season.

Ange Postecoglou rates the midfielder highly. The Tottenham Hotspur head coach worked with the youngster when he was the manager of Celtic.

The Scottish Mail on Sunday, 16/04 print edition page 99 quoted Postecoglou as saying that O’Riley “is an eager learner who wants to get the very most out of his football career”.

I do not think that Celtic will sell O’Riley in the middle of the season, but a potential transfer to West Ham United or Newcastle United could happen in the summer of 2024.
