Report: West Ham want Anthony Martial including in deal for Issa Diop

The Frenchman is wanted by Manchester United this summer but the Hammers aren’t overly keen on a sale.

West Ham United will ask for Manchester United to throw in Anthony Martial as part of any deal for central defender Issa Diop, according to The Independent.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has used Martial frequently during his tenure as the boss but that hasn’t stopped the Hammers making this audacious request.

It seems likely that West Ham will want in excess of £60 million for the ex-Toulouse man, with the Londoners already rejecting an offer of £40 million plus a player.

Diop, 22 played 33 Premier League games during his maiden campaign in the top-flight.

His performances clearly caught the eye of United, who are keen to bolster their defensive with the signing of the Frenchman.

TBR Verdict

There seems to be an annual discussion at Old Trafford over whether Anthony Martial should be sold or not.

Given that the Hammers now want the forward including in a deal for Diop, those talks look like starting all over again.

It is an impressive transfer stance from West Ham, it has to be said.

All too often in modern day football do the smaller clubs get dictated to by the bigger boys, but not in this instance.

If United want to land Diop they will either have to fork out £60 million or offer Martial as a makeweight to their Premier League rivals.

Having signed Pablo Fornals for £24 million last week, the Hammers seemingly mean business.

The versatile forward is on £110k-a-week at Old Trafford (Spotrac) and that would tie in with the wage structure at the Hammers.

Landing Martial would be a remarkable coup for Manuel Pellegrini and would highlight that West Ham means business next season.
