Report: West Ham tracking £25m international who has 'great knack of scoring goals'
West Ham United are continuing to track Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz this month, as David Moyes looks to push on with his attempts to strengthen the Hammers’ ranks.
The Hammers are yet to add to the squad this month despite being in excellent form and having another serious chance of reaching Europe. Indeed, the top four still isn’t beyond the realms of possibility. But according to the Standard, there are potential deals in the pipeline for West Ham and Moyes.
One deal that could happen is a move to bring in Blackburn Rovers striker, Ben Brereton-Diaz. The Chilean international has been nothing short of superb this season. He’s hit 20 goals in 25 for Rovers, propelling them firmly into the promotion picture. He’s also done well for Chile, and has quickly endeared himself to the South American fans.
Any move to sign Brereton-Diaz is likely to be met with competition, however. Newcastle have been linked with the forward, as have Leeds. It’s claimed Blackburn could ask for more than £25m to even consider selling.
Brereton-Diaz raised eyebrows when he moved to Blackburn from Forest as a teenager for around £7m. He took time to adjust, but has seen rapid improvement this season.
TBR’s View: Brereton-Diaz A Top Striker Who Would Thrive At West Ham
There’s been Championship strikers down the years who have looked the part but then not quite done it. But you get the feeling with Brereton-Diaz that things are different.
He’s flying not only for Blackburn but for Chile as well. At times this season, he’s looked too good for the Championship and it’s amazing Blackburn have kept him for so long really.
If West Ham are serious, then the Rovers star would be ideal. As Colin Hendry said of Brereton-Diaz, he has an ‘edge’ to him and the age old ‘handy knack of scoring goals’. At £25m or so, he could be a snip.
