West Ham: Tottenham beaten in transfer race; Sturridge interest cools; Spaniard latest target
West Ham are set to beat Tottenham to securing the services of Wolfsburg’s 18-year-old prodigy Surat Maglam, whose contract will expire in the summer, say the Sun. Both clubs are chasing the midfielder but it is believed that the board will back Slaven Bilic to allow him to offer a five year deal to the Turkey under 19 international who is yet to make his first team debut but is very highly rated. As an attacking midfielder, he could offer a long term replacement to Dimitri Payet should the Frenchman opt to leave the club in the near future.
However, the Daily Star claim that the club’s interest in Daniel Sturridge has cooled as club bosses are not convinced that they will be able to persuade the England international to join the club. Sturridge is growing frustrated by the lack of first team action at Anfield and is looking for a way out, with both the Hammers and Crystal Palace interested, but neither club is sure that they will be able to offer an attractive enough financial package or project for the former Chelsea man. Whether or not he does end up at the London Stadium remains to be seen.
One alternative that has been identified is Paris Saint-Germain’s Spanish forward Jese Rodriguez, who has struggled to make an impact since signing from Real Madrid in the summer. The 23-year-old could now be targeted with a loan move in January as Slaven Bilic hopes to lure him with the promise of regular first team football, say the Daily Star. PSG may be reluctant to let him go having only signed him for £23 million a matter of months ago, but he would be an attractive option for the Hammers given that he can also play on either flank as well as centrally.
