West Ham targeting MLS livewire is bad news for forgotten 29-year-old

West Ham United are interested in signing Jefferson Savarino, according to Sky Sports.

The Real Salt Lake winger is apparently available for £6 million this summer, and has caught the eye with a good start to the MLS season.

In 13 games so far Savarino has notched three goals and two assists.

The livewire is currently on duty with Venezuela at the Copa America, and club scouts will apparently watch the winger in action against Brazil on Wednesday.

West Ham could face competition for Savarino, with Newcastle United also credited with interest.

If Savarino signed for West Ham, it could be a big blow for £17.5 million signing Andriy Yarmolenko (Evening Standard), who has become something of a forgotten man at the London Stadium.

The Ukraine international suffered an Achilles tear against Tottenham Hotspur in September 2018 and has not featured since.

The talented star has had an injury-hit career and he turns 30 later this year.

With the links to the younger Savarino, perhaps the club are considering a reduced role for the fragile former Borussia Dortmund player.

Although versatile, Savarino tends to play mainly from the right wing, which is where Yarmolenko was playing before his latest injury nightmare.
