West Ham are reportedly interested in Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic, who would be the perfect mentor for Declan Rice.
According to football website 90Min, the Hammers are considering for Serbian midfielder Matic.
It is understood that the 31-year-old is expected to be considering leaving Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
The report explains that he could open to returning to London, after two previous successful spells with Chelsea.
Matic may not be at the peak of his powers anymore and has played just five games this campaign, but could be a useful player in the centre of the park if he recaptures his form.
He’s a midfield powerhouse that has played at the top level and won three Premier League titles..
West Ham star Rice should be excited about the possibility of Matic moving to the London Stadium, as it would give him the ideal chance to pick his brain on a day-to-day basis.
Matic has been one of the best defensive midfielders the Premier League has seen in the last decade and was an unstoppable force at one point in a Chelsea shirt.
He’s been an expert at breaking up play in front of defences and is a gifted left-footed footballer too.
Rice is already a strong defensive midfield option for West Ham, but has a long way to go if he wants to become one of the best in the business and Matic is a great example to follow.
The 20-year-old is battling away for the Hammers during a difficult run of results for the club and the England international has so much potential to reach.
He already has captain Mark Noble alongside him to get tips from and having Matic as another in the dressing room would be a big boost.
