West Ham target John McGinn would be a brilliant addition

West Ham are reportedly interested in Aston Villa’s John McGinn this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Hammers and Leicester City are both keen in snapping up the 24-year-old.

But the report details that newly-promoted Villa are already holding discussions with their midfielder and are “confident” about extending his current deal with them.

It is understood that the Midlands club paid just £3million last summer for him from Hibernian and he went on to help spearhead promotion from the Championship via the play-off final.

West Ham found a solid combination of Declan Rice and captain Mark Noble in the centre of the park last season, but could do with another option at the London Stadium to put pressure on for a starting position.

McGinn would be a genius addition for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and he looks good enough to step up to the Premier League without any trouble.

The left-footed ace is a workhorse that covers so much ground on a pitch and is definitely one to look out for in the top-flight next season.

He offers great cover in front of the defence with his fierce tackling and interceptions, while he can be a threat going forward too.

The Scotland international managed seven goals and 10 assists last season for Villa in 44 games across all competitions.

McGinn plays with the same sort of passion as West Ham skipper Noble and it’s no surprise that he’s a big fan favourite at Villa.

It looks unlikely that the Hammers will be able to win the race for their midfield target, but he is one to keep watch of and may be destined for bigger things.
