West Ham supporters praise Rice's midfield masterclass in battling Southampton win

West Ham got their festive programme off to the best possible start with a battling 2-1 victory over Southampton last night.

When Nathan Redmond’s second half strike put the hosts ahead, it looked as if their revival under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl was set to continue with a third straight win, but Felipe Anderson had other ideas.

The Brazilian netted twice in six minutes to turn the game on its head and earn the Hammers a fifth win in six Premier League matches.

And while Anderson may grab the headlines for his goalscoring contributions on a night where there was precious little quality on show, Declan Rice deserves his share of the plaudits for an outstanding midfield display.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

The youngster is an outstanding technician, and in games where West Ham sit deep and narrow the space he has to cover in front of the defence, he looks very good indeed.

That was certainly the case last night and the West Ham fans took to Twitter to praise Rice for his leadership, desire and quality in the aftermath of the win.
