Edimilson Fernandes has departed West Ham United to join German club Mainz, as confirmed by the club’s official website.
Following a loan spell at Fiorentina in 2018/19, the Swiss international midfielder has not impressed enough to earn a spot in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans but will play in the Bundesliga next season instead.
Fernandes joined the Hammers in 2016 but failed to nail down a spot in the starting side under Slaven Bilic, David Moyes or Pellegrini for any length of time.
But during a summer in which the Hammers need to spruce up their squad again to take them to the next level, there are many fans who believe Fernandes should have been given an opportunity to prove himself.

There could perhaps be a degree of absence making the heart grow fonder – it’s hard to see Fernandes having made such an impact last season if he was still around.
But the Hammers fans want to see a top level midfielder of the right age arrive this summer after the Switzerland man’s departure and they’re not happy to see him go…
