West Ham United star Declan Rice has shown that there was no love lost on Monday night by sending a one-word message to Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish on Instagram – as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw.
Neither side could make the breakthrough, with West Ham failing to create chances and having to hold out for a point following Arthur Masuaku’s red card – and Lukasz Fabianski denying Aston Villa on numerous occasions.
Rice and Grealish was one of the more intriguing battles during the course of the stalemate, with both expected to be the future of the England team for years to come – though Grealish is yet to win a senior cap for Gareth Southgate’s side.
Grealish posted on Instagram after the match, stating that he feels as though Villa could have won the match but is satisfied with a point – and Rice responded, describing Grealish as a “player”. Anthony Knockaert also commented.
The result saw West Ham miss out on the opportunity to rise as high as third place. Instead, the point means they sit in eighth place with eight points from their opening five games. Villa, meanwhile, will surely rue the opportunity to claim victory.
Indeed, the Midlands outfit have managed just four points from five games – and a win would have seen them overtake Norwich City into 13th place. However, they sit way down in 17th ahead of Sunday’s outing against Arsenal at The Emirates.
