The Daily Mail report that Slaven Bilic has identified Southampton striker Shane Long as a transfer target to add goals to the Irons line-up with Simone Zaza set to depart. The 29-year-old has made just five Premier League starts for the Saints this season and could be tempted by regular first team football.
A vital player for Ireland, Long has only scored one goal in 22 appearances this season but has found many of those coming from the bench and would benefit from more football.
L’Equipe, cited by the Express claim that another summer signing could be on his way out as Ligue Une side Marseille monitor Sofiane Feghouli and may launch a January bid for the winger, despite the fact that he is set to depart for the African Cup of Nations this week.
Signed on a free transfer from Valencia this summer, the 27-year-old is yet to make a Premier League start for the club but it may not be such a disastrous move if the Algerian can be sold for a big profit.
After a narrow defeat to reigning champions Leicester, Slaven Bilic spoke to criticise his team’s final touch which cost them the game, he said:
“It’s very frustrating to lose a game like this. They started better, and were the better team for 20 minutes. They deserved to score, but then after that we played very good and had a few chances in the first half that we should have scored from. Second half we were missing that final touch, that final ball. We gave everything and it’s a shame to lose like this. That’s life. The finishing or the last ball was not quite there.”
The Hammers were perhaps unlucky not to take a point but now will want to bounce back in rapid fashion.
