West Ham United are being linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.
According to 90min, the Serbia international is considering leaving Old Trafford and has emerged as a surprise January option for the Hammers.
The Hammers are currently short of midfield options, with Declan Rice the only true holding player available to Manuel Pellegrini.
Matic has been with United since 2016, reuniting with Jose Mourinho following their time at Chelsea together.
The 31-year-old – who cost £40 million (BBC Sport) – has been struggling with injury this season, and has been restricted to making just five appearances so far.
Should West Ham get their man, it will likely spell the end of the line for one of the club’s most disappointing signings in recent memory.
TBR’s view – Sanchez’s time would be up
West Ham signing Matic would undoubtedly finish Carlos Sanchez early at West Ham.
The Colombian midfielder – out of contract next summer – has proven to be a disastrous signing following his 2018 switch from Fiorentina.
He wasn’t helped by the knee injury he suffered early doors, but the veteran just hasn’t shown anything of note in his 13 appearances for the club.
Despite some iffy performances last term for the Red Devils, £120,000-a-week star Matic (Spotrac) remains a decent holding midfielder and would be a huge upgrade on Sanchez.
He would likely go into Pellegrini’s starting XI alongside Declan Rice to provide some additional steel in front of the back four.
