West Ham should think twice over signing fragile Samir Nasri

West Ham United should think carefully about trying to extend Samir Nasri’s contract, with the Frenchman having struggled with injury since arriving in January.

The playmaker has only managed to make six appearances so far – a disappointing return.

The ex-Arsenal and Manchester City ace might have added to that tally against Chelsea, but got injured during his half-time warm-up.

Manuel Pellegrini had intended to throw him on in a bid to try and get back into the game.

On the situation, the Chilean said as quoted by The Sun: “Samir Nasri was going to start in the second half, but in the warm-up he felt a muscle injury in his calf and wasn’t confident to play. We’ll see tomorrow.”

Nasri is currently tied to a short-term contract and can move on at the end of the current season.

TBR’s view

West Ham might want to think twice about signing Nasri up to a new deal.

Unfortunately he has not been able to prove why he deserves one so far.

He appears to be very fragile following his ban, and it’s whether West Ham are wanting to take such a risk.

He is clearly still very talented, but West Ham simply haven’t been able to rely on him and he is likely on high wages.

Arguably, there is cover for if Nasri left the club this summer in the form of Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson.
