The Daily Mail recently reported that West Ham United are determined to hang onto Marko Arnautovic this summer, despite interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Roma.
The Hammers apparently have no intention of selling the 30-year-old. Therefore, it would likely take a huge offer to prise him away from the London Stadium.
It’s easy to see why Arnautovic is valued so highly by the Irons. The attacker was a key player for them last season and regularly led the line. Over the course of the Premier League campaign he made a contribution of 10 goals and 4 assists in 28 games.
However, Manuel Pellegrini should think twice before rejecting all offers for the Austrian.
Whilst Arnautovic was a key player for the Hammers last season, he is not a player for the future. This would likely be the Irons’ last chance to cash in on Arnautovic for a big fee. That money could then be reinvested in other attackers.
The 77-cap Austria international is not irreplaceable. His record in front of goal isn’t extraordinary. Whilst he provides a strong physical presence up front, there are others who can do that too. What’s more, Arnautovic comes with his share of trouble, and can be a difficult, temperamental character.
The Hammers should take this chance to make some serious money out of Arnautovic and look to improve their attacking contingent further with the funds raised.
