West Ham should consider move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand

West Ham should be competing around the European spots next season under manager Manuel Pellegrini and he’s under pressure to enjoy a strong campaign during his second year in charge.

The Hammers are just a little light in a couple of areas and need to try fill in the gaps during over the summer transfer window.

One position that needs to be focused on is at left-back, as both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku are too inconsistent defensively.

West Ham should look to bring in a full-back to compete with Cresswell for the left-back position, which would allow Masuaku to be deployed in a more advanced role where he’s more trustworthy.

They should turn their attention to Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand, who could be a brilliant target to bring to to the London Stadium.

According to the Daily Echo, the Saints could offload either Bertrand or Matt Targett this summer as they look to reshuffle their left-back area.

The report details that Bertrand will not earn another long-term deal at St Mary’s and he is available at a “reasonable price” this summer.

Bertrand is exactly the type of experienced full-back that would be brilliant for West Ham and he would improve the side if he slotted into the starting XI.

The 29-year-old defender has played at the elite level and won the Champions League with former club Chelsea, while he’s captained Southampton and played 171 times for them.

He is got a great balance of offensive and defensive play, something that he’s built up over the years.

The £70,000-a-week ace (Spotrac) should pop up on Pellegrini’s radar this summer and reports suggesting he is available at the right price should be encouraging.
