West Ham should consider a move for Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne in January

Not so long ago Nathaniel Clyne was England’s first choice right-back and was one of the first name’s on Liverpool’s team-sheet. Now, he hasn’t made a matchday squad in the Premier League since the opening day of the season.

The defender is the Reds’ forgotten man and the 27-year-old is likely to be on the market come January given just how little he has featured to date.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez both ahead of him in the pecking order, it is easy to see why it may be complicated for the former Crystal Palace man.

As West Ham become so dependent on Pablo Zabaleta, the 33-year-old whose contract is due to expire in the summer, it may be wise to begin to consider who may be available as a long-term replacement.

Given how keen Liverpool would be to sell and his London roots, Clyne may be an attractive option. It has been some time since he played regular first team football so there may be questions over his fitness, but that has rarely put West Ham off a player before.

Clyne may not be the most attractive of options, but given his experience, relative youth and the fact that he may well be a bargain could put him into consideration.
