There have been few deals done anywhere in the Premier League in recent years that look more inspired than West Ham’s move to sign Tomas Soucek.
Soucek arrived on loan as a relative unknown during last year’s January window. But the 25-year-old’s impressive form – he scored three goals for the Hammers last season – prompted the club to make his move permanent in the summer.

In total, West Ham spent £19 million in fees to sign the Czech Republic international (via Sky Sports). And he has only got better since becoming a permanent member of David Moyes’s squad.
Soucek tops the Irons’ goalscoring charts in the top flight this term. He currently has eight goals in the Premier League.
He has been integral to guiding the Hammers into contention for the European places. But with that, West Ham must be bracing themselves for future interest in the midfielder.

They are seemingly in a strong position right now. According to Sky Sports, he will still have three years left on his contract in the summer. So they may not be under any pressure to sell anyway.
However, surely it would be an incredibly smart move to reward Soucek and look to extend his terms further.
It would be a big statement from West Ham to tie him down until 2025, or 2026 even. It would also hand Moyes’s side a further boost if one of their best players committed more of their future to the club.
The price that they could demand for Soucek would also increase if they extended his contract.
The Hammers may be wary of tying him down for so long. As hard as it is to believe right now, there are likely to be times ahead when his form does dip.
But everything so far suggests West Ham have a special talent on their hands. Maybe now is a good time to be proactive and initiate talks.
