West Ham round-up: Key man hesitates over contract talks; injury update; Bilic reveals dream signing

A fan favourite, Michail Antonio, has shocked many fans by seemingly refusing to commit his future to the club despite rumours of contract negotiations as he told Sky Sports:

“Right now, nothing is really happening on the contract talks. We’ll just see how things go. At the moment my head is not being swayed in any way. I just want to play my football and whatever happens happens. We’ll see.”

The in-form winger, who has been crucial in many of the Hammers’ best performances this season, signed a new contract in the summer to keep him at the club until 2020 but his impressive displays are believed to have encouraged bosses to seek to tie him down long-term with a number of clubs sniffing around him.

Another player in superb form of late is striker Andy Carroll, but the former England international missed last weekend’s game against West Brom. Now, he is expected to be back fit sooner rather than later as Head of Medical and Sports Science Stijn Vandenbroucke told the club website:

“I will start by updating on Andy Carroll, who picked up a injury earlier this year. We got Andy fit enough to face Middlesbrough and then also to face Southampton, but the West Bromwich Albion game came too quick and Andy is now working towards the Watford game.”

Irons fans will be desperate to see the target man back in claret and blue for the trip to Watford, with his aerial prowess and power up-front sorely missed against the Baggies last time out.

With the team now jetting off to Dubai, the club recently held a family fun day in which young supporters posed questions to manager Slaven Bilic and captain Mark Noble. One question led to Bilic revealing that his dream signing would be former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, as quoted by the Mirror:

“Messi. But there’s one player I might be able to get before him, Modric. And I would get a discount.”

The Real Madrid man seems an unlikely target anytime in the near future, but with the connection between the two from Bilic’s spell in charge of the Croatian national team could come in useful one day.
