Mario back in London
After spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, Joao Mario endured an awkward period after the World Cup when he returned to Inter Milan and was promptly jeered by supporters having made his desire to leave clear.
Unfortunately for him, West Ham seem uninterested in bringing him back to the Premier League but he could be handed a fresh chance to make an impression in London, as the Mirror (live blog, 12:20pm) states Tottenham are considering a late swoop.
It’s added that Mario is dreaming of a move to Tottenham, believing that ‘putting the pressure on’ is exactly what is missing from his career.
Another day, another West Ham saga but everything will reach a conclusion one way or another tomorrow at 5pm. The Hammers seem likely to complete transfers before then, with Lucas Perez on his way from Arsenal and Fiorentina’s Carlos Sanchez closing in on a switch.
Alfredo Pedulla states the Colombia international’s agent is in attendance in the capital in order to thrash out an agreement in the Hammers, which will see the 32-year-old former Aston Villa man return to the Premier League.
It’s added that Edmilson Fernandes will go the other way, with Fiorentina keen on a loan deal with an option to buy (more on that shortly).
Leicester join Drinkwater hunt
West Ham’s chase for midfield reinforcements has seen a number of names appear in recent days and recent speculation has suggested the Hammers could make a move to sign Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea.
However, the Independent suggests they could have a huge fight on their hands to secure a deal as the England international’s former employers Leicester City are expressing an interest in saving the midfielder from his west London nightmare.
Signed last summer, Drinkwater struggled for opportunities last year and is way down in Maurizio Sarri’s pecking order.
Late Fernandes exit
Switching our attention back to Fiorentina and a possible exchange of players, the Italian side are keen on bringing Edmilson Fernandes to Serie A as a replacement for West Ham bound Carlos Sanchez – with their preference being a loan deal, with an option to purchase in the future.
That is according to the Daily Mail (live blog, 14:33), who claim the side from Florence are already underway with discussions surrounding the Switzerland midfielder – but a conclusion could be further down the line as Italy’s transfer window doesn’t close until the end of August.
The 22-year-old made 14 appearances for the Hammers last season.
