West Ham United want at least £60 million for defender Issa Diop, after they apparently rejected an offer of £40 million plus an unnamed player from Manchester United.
The Mirror claim the Red Devils have identified the Frenchman as a cheaper alternative to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
Diop’s stock has risen high after an impressive debut season in the Premier League in 2018/19 in which the £67,000-a-week ace (Spotrac) made 33 appearances.
The £22 million signing from Toulouse (BBC Sport) was a mainstay in the side and caught the eye with some commanding displays at the back.
If West Ham’s reported valuation of Diop is to be believed then they should brace themselves to lose Diop.
£60 million is a lot of money but one gets the feeling Manchester United – a club badly in need of defensive reinforcements – would pay such a figure.
Having been quoted huge fees for the likes of Koulibaly and Harry Maguire, Diop at £60 million probably appeals.
He has excellent potential and could be a solid long-term investment for the Red Devils.
The Mirror add that the player wants to move, so it’s a story that could well have legs.
