West Ham reportedly move quickly over Pablo Fornals, could finalise deal this week

West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals, according to a report by the Guardian.

They report that Hammers director of football Mario Husillos knows the player well from his their time together at Malaga and has used that to get the deal lined up quickly.

That is reportedly in line with West Ham’s policy this summer of getting their business done early to have their squad as prepared as possible for the season ahead.

And the report goes on to say that the deal for Fornals could even be completed by the end of the week – such is its rapid progress – but the midfielder does need to agree personal terms.

Manuel Pellegrini has been charged with bringing in a more expansive style on the pitch at West Ham but it was also just as important that their approach off the field changed as well.

The Hammers have previously been keen on expensive, experienced signings, but there now appears to be an emphasis on younger players, such as Fornals.

At 23, he is exactly the right age to go on and improve and a midfield playmaker in his mould would make such a difference to the Hammers’ approach.

Getting him in early to give him a full pre-season is only going to boost his chances of being an instant success.
