West Ham reportedly agree fee with Wigan over sale of striking flop Jordan Hugill

Jordan Hugill’s West Ham nightmare is edging closer to ending as the Hammers have agreed a £3 million fee with Wigan, according to the Sun.

They report that the Hammers are set to make a £7 million loss on the 27-year-old they signed from Preston in January 2018 for a reported (BBC) £10 million.

What’s more, the report also says that Hugill has not yet agreed terms with the Latics and the Hammers may yet end up having to give him a portion of the transfer fee they get for him.

That compounds an awful deal secured in desperation by David Moyes during his brief reign, as Manuel Pellegrini looks keen to get him out the door even as he battles with a shortage of strikers.

There are many transfer deals that make sense at the time but don’t work out in reality – but the Hugill switch in 2018 always had a stench of desperation and the feel it was never going to work.

David Moyes was always likely to be a temporary manager and his swoop for Hugill was a lurching attempt to add firepower to his attack – but it did nothing for the club or the player.

Hugill has now lost form and confidence which was once building as he looked to be one of the most dangerous hitmen in the second tier.

And now the Hammers look to suffer badly financially for it, too.
