Why West Ham have reason to feel hopeful against Everton

West Ham have a big reason to feel positive about getting points against Everton on Sunday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team are currently propping up the Premier League table after a tough start.

They are yet to register a single point having lost to Liverpool, Bournemouth, Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Irons will be raring to go against Everton at Goodison Park following the international break.

By contrast, the Toffees have started the new season well following their own summer of change – they currently sit seventh with six points and have proven impossible to beat so far.

But West Ham have reason to feel they can take maximum points from the game due to the fact that Everton are currently hounded by injuries.

Coleman and Calvert-Lewin blow for Everton

Currently, Everton have no less than ten first-team players on the treatment table now.

Theo Walcott is perhaps the biggest blow – the in-form winger has a rib injury and will likely miss the Sunday clash.

Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka, Yerry Mina, Idrissa Gueye, Bernard and Andre Gomes are all still out, with James McCarthy a long-term absentee.

Seamus Coleman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also picked up knocks on international duty.

It means Marco Silva has a pretty thread-bare squad to choose a starting XI from.

Do Everton injuries hand West Ham the advantage?

West Ham must fancy their chances given how depleted Everton’s team is at the moment.

Some of the aforementioned players will be assessed late in the day and could yet make the fixture, but the Irons will still feel there’s a real chance to take maximum points.

The hosts will also be missing Richarlison, who is still serving his suspension.

Even though it’s still a ‘transition period’, the Hammers do need to get off the mark and quickly.

Pellegrini will certainly feel as though Sunday’s game presents a great chance for them to do exactly that.
