West Ham United are keen to bring in one specific player this summer with Julen Lopetegui keen provide him with some big assurances.

The Hammers have already done some business this summer by bringing in forward Luis Guilherme and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

However, West Ham‘s new manager Julen Lopetegui is still looking to make some considerable changes to his starting XI ahead of the new campaign.

A new era is being promised following the departure of David Moyes with a fresh start for Lopetegui given the Irons do not have European football to contend with for the new season.

With fresh ideas at the London Stadium, there is one player who the former Wolves manager is seemingly incredibly keen to bring to east London.

West Ham ready to make summer target new captain

One of the big issues for the Hammers going into the new campaign is the backline after a disappointing 2023/24 season.

Despite finishing in the top half, West Ham (74) had one of the worst defensive records in the league with only the three relegated clubs conceding more goals than the Hammers.

And that has seen Lopetegui look to make a significant move this summer to bolster the West Ham defence.

According to GiveMeSport, West Ham are set to make a fresh bid for the Wolves centre-back Max Kilman.

It is claimed a bid from the Irons is set to land at Molineux over the coming days after making the decision not to scrap him from their list of targets.

West Ham have had their share of frustrations when it comes to looking to secure a deal for Kilman with Wolves valuing him very highly.

But Lopetegui is said to be so intent on a runion with Kilman that he would even be willing to make the 27-year-old the new captain at the London Stadium.

West Ham could also be set to lose defenders

Although West Ham barely had a defensive record to boast from the 2023/24 campaign, there could be some defenders set to leave over the coming weeks.

The report claims both Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd are not certain to still be around at the London Stadium for the start of the new season.

Kilman has been hailed by his former defensive partner in Conor Coady who described him as ‘brilliant’.

“Max has been with us for years, he trains with us every single day, he knows the role inside out, he’s a fantastic lad and a brilliant professional as well,” he told the Wolves website back in 2020.

Although Kilman may be seen as someone to improve the quality of that West Ham backline, it is also apparent the Hammers’ boss is also concerned that he is going to need to add to the numbers with players possibly heading out the door.
