The Evening Standard believe that club bosses are increasingly being convinced that they should allow Dimitri Payet to leave this month after revelations that he would feign injury if forced to play. They are concerned that six months on the sideline will only see his value drop, particularly as he will reach his 30th birthday before the summer transfer window opens.

Marseille are believed to have sent officials to London to try to progress talks, with the Hammers currently still demanding £40 million, over double the initial offer that the attacking midfielder’s former club made to bring him back to the south coast of France.

That would increase the need for an addition in attack, with a deal for Scott Hogan from Brentford currently being held up in a dispute over add-ons according to Sky Sports. They claim that an up-front fee of £9 million has been agreed for the 24-year-old, but the disagreement comes in that the Bees are demanding £6 million in add-ons, whilst the Hammers are only offering £3 million.

With the Irons squad looking increasingly thin on options up-front after Simone Zaza was announced as a Valencia player this weekend, there is increasing urgency to complete a deal to bring the in form forward to the London Stadium.

An alternative option could be AC Milan winger M’Baye Niang, who Gazzetta dello Sporto report is subject to interest from West Ham and Arsenal as the two clubs seek to persuade the San Siro outfit to part with the Frenchman despite insisting that he is not for sale.

The 22-year-old, who can play anywhere across a front three, has scored three goals and got three assists in 16 Serie A games so far this campaign and could bring pace and power to the West Ham attack, especially should Dimitri Payet depart.
