West Ham must cash in on Valencia interest in fading Angelo Ogbonna

Having made just five appearances for West Ham this season, Angelo Ogbonna appears to be fighting for his future at the London Stadium after years as first choice in the backline in east London.

Goal now claim that La Liga outfit Valencia have been monitoring the Italian and may swoop for him in January, which would surely be too good to turn down for Manuel Pellegrini and company.

With a clear first choice defence not featuring the 30-year-old and with injuries regularly sidelining the central defender, it may be best to sell him before his value plummets and it may be wise to get his wages off of the bill with three and a half years remaining on his contract.

Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena appear to be the long-term pairing, with Declan Rice also providing cover and Winston Reid soon to return from injury. Even young Reece Oxford can be an alternative, meaning that Pellegrini should not fear a lack of options.

Ogbonna has served West Ham well over the years, but the chance to sell him and attempt to recoup the £10 million paid to Juventus for him in 2015 would be good business.

There is still time for Ogbonna to show his value ahead of the January transfer window, but if not it would be far from surprising to see the defender depart after just three Premier League starts this season.
