West Ham: Move back on for striker; Carroll set for return; Antonio challenges team

Italian source Leggo report that AC Milan are ready to cash in on Colombia striker Carlos Bacca in January, after he came so close to joining the Hammers in the summer before turning down the opportunity to move to London.

With the Italian club now ready to force the forward out of the club, Bacca may be forced to depart and not have the option to turn down a move. Paris Saint-Germain are also linked and a host of Spanish teams may make a move for him, meaning that it won’t be easy if the Irons are to persuade him.

Slaven Bilic has confirmed that a temporary solution may be found with Andy Carroll in line for a potential call up to the squad for tonight’s Manchester United clash in the EFL Cup quarter final. He said:

“We’re going to see today whether Andy Carroll is ready, we will make a decision after training. Maybe tomorrow, definitely Saturday [v Arsenal].”

Carroll’s return will be greatly appreciated given Diafra Sakho’s new injury concern and the lack of form of the likes of Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri and Andre Ayew.

Current top scorer and by far and away the best performer for the club, Michail Antonio has expressed his frustration at his team’s inconsistency, as he told Sky Sports:

“I don’t feel that we should be down there, but because of the performances that we have had and the mistakes we’ve been making, that’s why we are down there. If we win a couple of games, we could easily be ninth or 10th, it’s just one of those things where we’ve got to concentrate on our own game and make sure we’ve put all of our mistakes behind us now… As a player you have to be consistent and as a team you have got to be consistent to be up and around the big boys… Hopefully we’ve now put everything behind us, we find our shape, we find our bond and now we can push on and get up the league.”

Antonio has been one of few to avoid criticism and will now be hoping to do enough to return to the England set up under Gareth Southgate.
