West Ham should monitor Roberto Gagliardini situation very closely

West Ham United should be keeping an eye on the situation of Roberto Gagliardini.

The Italian has been left out of Internazionale’s Champions League squad by manager Luciano Spalletti.

The decision has surprised supporters online, with many feeling as though he should have made it in.

Some outlets say Inter had to make the decision as part of the settlement agreement they have with UEFA – the Nerazzurri can only register 22 players for the group stages in accordance with Financial Fair Play.

Inter must have a fiscal balance between fees paid and received for players, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Gagliardini has unfortunately missed out, along with Dalbert and Joao Mario.

With Spalletti having signed Radja Nainggolan and Kwadwo Asamoah this summer, and further options such as Marcelo Brozovic, Matias Vecino and Danilo D’Ambrosio, opportunities could be few and far between for Gagliardini at San Siro.

He’s only made one start so far in Serie A.

West Ham should monitor the situation

West Ham ought to keep a close eye on this one.

The Hammers signed Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez this summer but holding midfield still appears to be a problem position.

Obviously it’s still early, but the Irons have looked weak so far.

The should monitor Gagliardini from now until January and perhaps make a loan enquiry then if things don’t improve, and the Italian is struggling for game time.

His Champions League omission surely has to sting.

Perhaps he will feel the need to consider his options when the next window rolls around.

What’s more, West Ham and Inter did business last season with the loan move of Mario.

What does he bring?

Gagliardini is an elegant footballer with superb ball control.

He is an individual who likes to dictate the pace of games with short passing.

The 24-year-old is quite tall too at 6ft 3ins. He can provide that bite that has been absent from West Ham thus far.
